I realise it's only been a week.

But in an attempt to not fall out of the habit of journalling too early... I am still alive!

I have, admittedly, fallen off the wagon in terms of keeping up with the last few Snowflake challenges. It's quite possible I'll catch up with some at a later date -- I could ramble about my favourite tropes for a decade, but, as in the Top Ten challenge, choice paralysis prevented me from being able to pick one or two and stick with them.

That said... I am currently neck-deep in the final stretch of a longfic, which is consuming approximately 93.5% of my brainpower, and when I'm not working on that I am playing Stardew Valley (Expanded), because basking in 32-bit summer sunshine is a much-needed respite from the current stupid weather. So, that's where I've been for a week.

Anyhow. This is just my silly attempt -- no doubt the first of many -- at an "it's been a while, and I will make myself post something, goddammit, even if it's substanceless" post. Hi!

Thank you! I certainly hope so -- getting into a routine can be hard, but once I get there, hopefully it'll come more naturally! :D

Yes, I've only been here 2 years and it took a while to work out the technical aspects like, should I post in HTML or Rich Text? etc. But it's a lovely place, better than those commercial sites run by billionaires.

Yeah, it's the whole atmosphere of the place that keeps bringing me back. It's the only Internet space that I throw real money at -- even when I wasn't actively posting or anything -- just because it feels so important to support a space that actively defies ad- and/or algorithm-based social 'media'.

Oh yes these places with no algorithm are so much better. I realised that algorithms are just designed to make people more extreme- generally more angry and reactive, because they keep feeding the emotions and spreading them around. I'm sure I'm slow to realise this! But I feel so much better on DW and also Mastodon, which both have no algorithms riling people up.

I had so many friends on Twitter though who refused to join places with no algorithm because they said they needed to be told who to follow, what to like, how to think about things! Pretty scary to think they can't make up their own minds.

Thank you! It really is great having something to immerse yourself in long-term. Shorter fic is fun in its way, but I'm always more comfortable working on something longer.

I'm writing for GLOW -- small fandom, lots of inspiration, apparently! -- and the first draft is looking to be about 100k... but then, I usually add a lot in editing, so who knows where it'll end up!

Nope familiar with Glow. I take its special to you. That makes it so fun. Do you ever take part in the Small Fandom Big Bang?. One is going on right now. It's such fun. Good luck with finishing and the edits too.

I do think about it sometimes! But my writing tends to run away with me, so forcing some poor artist to wade through one of my stupidly over-long fic-rambles feels unfair.

But you can give them an outline. I do art for it and I don’t have time to read all of the. Stories. I ask for outline and it does the trick.
